At Brook Mead, homework plays a vital role in supporting academic progress and developing scholars’ confidence with key knowledge. Research shows that effective homework can lead to an additional five months of progress for secondary students.
Our Approach
Homework at Brook Mead is shaped by two key principles:
- Homework is purposeful: Tasks are designed to help scholars improve their recall and application of knowledge covered within lessons.
- Homework is efficient: We prioritise regular, short, focused tasks that build fluency. Familiar formats and clear expectations help scholars form positive study habits.
Homework Platform: Satchel:One
All homework is set and tracked through Satchel:One. Once logged in, scholars and parents can view:
- Completed, upcoming, and overdue tasks
- Time guidance and task instructions
- Supporting resources
This ensures scholars can stay organised and make the most of their learning at home.

How Parents Can Support
Research highlights four key ways parents can positively influence academic outcomes:
- Set high academic expectations – reinforce the value of education and respectful attitudes toward school and teachers.
- Communicate regularly – talk with your child about their school day and learning.
- Encourage reading – help build strong reading habits.
- Create clear homework boundaries – support scholars in balancing study and leisure to foster independence and discipline.
Teachers record excellent homework completion and homework that has not been completed through our merit and demerit system. Parents will be notified of this through email and the MyChildAtSchool (MCAS) portal to help develop the regular communication about school between scholars and their parents.
Homework Club
To support with homework completion a lunchtime homework club is available to scholars on the following days. Within the homework club help and any necessary materials are available.
